The City Pillar Shrine
In The reign of H.M. Somdet Phra Phuttha Yotfa Chulalok The Great, Rama I was invited to ascend The Throne to be The First King of The Chakri Dynasty, he moved The Capital from Thon Buri to Bangkok and ordered The Installation of The City Pillar on April 21, 1782.
The Pillar was made of The Trunk of Chaiya Phruek Tree (Laburnum), and stands 108 Inches above ground level and
79 Inches Under ground level. The Horoscope of The City is placed inside. The Old City Pillar was replaced with a new one in the reign of King Rama IV. King Rama IV was specialized in astrology and horoscopes, so he adjusted The Horoscope of The City by holding a religious ritual in The Ubosoth of Wat Phra Sri Rattanasatsadaram, to inscribe The Horoscope of The City on A Gold Plate of
1Baht (15.2 Grams) in weight, and he also ordered to build a new shrine as the top of A Prang as at pavilion in Ayuthaya. The Horoscope of The City was then put in The City Pillar and a ceremony was organised to celebrate it.
The Guardian spirits who protect The City, and are enshrined in The City Pillar Shrine, in The past there ware only three: Phra Sua Mueang, Phra Song Mueang,
and Phra Mueang. Later , King Rama V added Phra Siam Thewathirat in The Area of The City Pillar Shrine.
