Benjakiti Park
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit has granted the name "Benjakiti" for the park.
The Royal Thai Government formally approved through the resolution of the Cabinet on December 24, 1991 the relocation of the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly which occupies around 430 rai of land to the provinces and the development of this area into a public park.
Objective
-to bestow this park to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit to Commemorate the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen's 5 th Cycle Birthday Anniversary.
-to develop a park and recreational area for the public.
Construction Area
The area of the whole project is about 430 rai and is divided into two sections:
(1) The Water Zone about 130 rai
(2) The Forest Zone about 300 rai
The initial construction focuses on the fist section of the park around the lake and the construction of the second section of the park will start when the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly has completely relocated to the provinces.
Conceptual Design
The Water Zone with an area of about
130 rai has been created into a water front development with an emphasis for the purpose of exercise, relaxation and recreational activities for the public.
The Forest Zone with an area of about 300 rai will be created into a natural park similar to a rain forest consisting of large and sizeable trees from the four regions of Thailand, trees from Thai literature and those of rare species.
Construction Cost
The cost of construction for the first part of the park is about 323,933,840 Baht with assistance and contribution from two major agencies:
(1) Ministry of Finance about 140,000,000 Baht
(2)Thailand Tobacco Monopoly about 183,933,840 Baht
